By using variety of echocardiographic techniques, doctor observes the size, shape, and contraction of the heart muscle, as well as the function of heart valves and blood flow in the heart and arteries. The structure and function of the heart are observed during two-dimensional echocardiography. If an echocardiogram is done with a stress test, it may show if the heart wall is moving well after exercise? It is also possible that enough blood may not reach to a part of the heart muscle during exercise, and decreased blood flow during exercise may cause the heart muscle to be unable to contract, as shown by echocardiography.
